Before I share a little story – a quick update. The last couple weeks we have been with Vinny’s dad. He is a great guy, and it’s been nice cooking in his full kitchen and enjoying the amenities of a 55+ Florida neighborhood. We’ve continued on track (for the most part) eating healthy and exercising regularly. I’ve also been rebuilding several of of my websites that were hit hard with Malware. Thankfully a friend (or is he an angel?) was able to help out so it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. The campground’s site was the hardest hit, so I ended up doing that one from scratch. We are also starting to gear up for traveling again, maybe in a week! The weather is starting to turn nicer down here, so we think it will be safe to go a little more north.
Now for a story.
(Hopefully anyone who is a vegetarian will not be too offended with this, but I trust they will get the point.) :-)
Yesterday Vinny and I went for a walk in a local park. As we approached a pavilion ahead we noticed a man under it alone, preparing a table. There was no one else anywhere nearby, and he was fussing with a lot of items spread around. It seemed a little odd to us, the sight of all those things on the table for just himself. Vinny said he saw him look at his watch.
Even though we were a pretty good distance from the pavilion we couldn’t help but catch the delicious scent of kielbasa sausages on the grill. Now the last few days we’ve been on a herbal cleanse and not eating much. So the smell of those sausages was wonderful! In fact we had to come back a different way so we wouldn’t feel so tempted. :-)
As we walked further on we noticed in the distance a woman walking from her car toward the pavilion. Ahhh…the man was preparing a picnic for a woman! That explained everything.
For some reason this man lovingly preparing a picnic for a woman kept coming to my mind during our walk. I noticed that every time I recalled the scene I smelled kielbasas again! Even though we were almost a quarter mile away the smell was strong and distinct. I thought that was very cool…except every time it only increased my hunger for a sausage! (I’m trying not to think about it right now…)
Anyway, are you catching my drift? :-)
It then got me thinking about the scent of love. It is the really the most overwhelming, potent, and lasting scent there is, one that is more sensed than smelled, but just as discernible. I believe we smell it when people love one another. Not just in word, but in deeds. Deeds that can be seen and felt, and are in essense generous, sacrificial, and without wanting to hurt or control another person. Anything less than that isn’t really love, and such deeds seem to have a more temporary, or even bad smell at that.
How wonderful it is that our physical senses are parables of spiritual senses that aid us in recognizing God (and what is not). It is simply not true that our Creator left us on this planet with no way of knowing Him or having a relationship with Him.
I love when I get a waft of Him. Don’t you?
Until next time….

He doesn’t smell like Kielbasa to me though ;-)
He does smell strikingly like you though :-D <3
